On the night of 21 December, the Russian occupiers attacked with Shahed drones from three directions: Chauda - occupied Crimea, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk. This was reported by the Air Force Command.
A total of 35 Shahed-136/131 were launched in waves at different times, from 20:00 on 20 December to 03:30 on 21 December.
"Tactical aviation, anti-aircraft missile units and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defence Forces were engaged in repelling of the air attack. Last night, Ukrainians managed to shoot down 34 of the 35 enemy attack UAVs launched," the command said.
Air defence was operating in Kyiv, Dnipro, Vinnytsya, Cherkasy, Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolayiv, Khmelnytskyy, Sumy, Poltava, Chernihiv and Kirovohrad Regions.
In the south, air defence destroyed 19 kamikaze drones, the press centre of the Southern Ukrainian Defence Forces reports. The enemy launched the drones from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov and the temporarily occupied Crimea.
"The combat operation lasted more than 7 hours. The drones came in two waves. The air defence forces destroyed 19 kamikaze drones: 13 in Mykolayiv Region, three in Kherson Region, two in Vinnytsya Region, one in Dnipro Region. There were no hits," the statement said.
The wreckage of a downed UAV in Mykolayiv district damaged a warehouse building of an agricultural enterprise. Rescuers quickly extinguished the fire. Nobody was injured.
