The one million Ukrainian drones to be produced in 2024 announced by the President yesterday are purely FPV. Other types will also be produced, Minister of Strategic Industry Oleksandr Kamyshin said on Telegram.
According to him, more than 50,000 FPV drones are to be produced by December this year. In addition to these, Ukraine may produce more than 10,000 medium-range strike drones (hundreds of kilometres) and 1,000+ drones with a range of over 1,000 kilometres next year.
"All production capabilities are ready, and contracting for 2024 is starting," he said.
Yesterday, at the final press conference, the president answered the question from a LB.ua correspondent that Ukraine would produce one million drones next year.
What are FPV drones and why are they important?
- FPV (First Person View) is a type of unmanned aerial vehicle that is controlled from the first person. The pilot uses a remote control and goggles to quickly manoeuvre and locate the enemy target. Such
- vehicles can be used for many purposes, including infantry engagements, repelling assaults, and neutralising heavy armoured vehicles.
- FPVs are relatively inexpensive, at around $600, and can disable or even destroy enemy equipment worth millions.
