On 20 December, the Svyatoshynskyy District Court of Kyiv extended the pre-trial restraint for Judge Oleksiy Tandyr in the case of a fatal road traffic accident at a checkpoint, Suspilne reports

Tandyr will be held in custody without the right to bail until 17 February.

For its part, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the court left the defendant in custody and seized his property and money.

According to the court, the measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail was extended for 2 months, until 17 February 2024 inclusive.

The court also granted the prosecutor's motion to seize the defendant's property, namely a land plot located in Kyiv Region, and cash. According to the latest declaration, the judge owns UAH 293,000 and USD 25,000.

The case of Judge Tandyr:

  • On the night of 26 May, Oleksiy Tandyr, head of the Makariv District Court of Kyiv Region, ran over a National Guard officer at a checkpoint in Kyiv.
  • Later, the court granted the prosecutor's request and authorised the forced collection of biological samples from the judge. The High Council of Justice authorised Tandyr's detention. The HCJ also suspended the suspect from performing his duties in his position.
  • In early August, the SBI completed a pre-trial investigation into Judge Tandyr. Expertise confirmed the alcohol content of the samples.
  • In August, the Kyiv Court of Appeal rejected the appeal against the preventive measure imposed on Judge Oleksiy Tandyr.
  • In October, the Svyatoshynskyy District Court of Kyiv extended the arrest of the suspected judge for 60 days.
  • Recently, the Babel media outlet reported, citing a document from the Territorial Department of the State Judicial Administration in Kyiv Region, that Judge Tandyr, who ran over a National Guard soldier to death, receives a salary while in jail. Since the accident at the checkpoint in Kyiv, the judge has been paid a monthly salary of 63,000 hryvnyas.
