Representatives of Ukraine and the United Kingdom held the second round of consultations on a bilateral agreement on providing Ukraine with security guarantees, as provided for in the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine, according to the presidential office website.
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by a deputy head of the presidential office, Ihor Zhovkva, and also included another deputy head Roman Mashovets, Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyy, and representatives of the Ministry of Defence.
"The second round of consultations showed the progress we have made since the start of bilateral security talks. The United Kingdom plays an important role in strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities, its economic and financial stability, as well as in gradually bringing our country closer to NATO membership, which will be a reliable guarantee," Zhovkva said.
The ministry said that during the talks, the parties analysed the main components of security guarantees and agreed on a further work plan.
Zhovkva and the head of the British delegation, Nick Catsaras, discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the countries, the implementation of the peace formula and the schedule of further contacts at the level of state leaders.
In July, members of the Group of 7 signed a declaration on long-term security guarantees and economic support for Ukraine. The signatories will also promote reforms in Ukraine that are necessary for NATO membership. The declaration is a framework common document. Ukraine held the first round of consultations with Italy on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees in late November.
