The State Border Service is building up its combat capabilities. Another brigade-type unit has been created on the basis of the Luhansk Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Service of Ukraine and is already performing tasks to repel Russian aggression. It has been named Revenge and is part of the Offensive Guard brigades, the State Border Service said.
According to it, since the spring of 2014, the soldiers of the detachment, led by their commander, the current head of the service, Serhiy Deyneka, have been giving a worthy rebuff to the Russians.
"It was this unit that held the defence in Luhansk for the longest time of all the security forces. In the early summer of 2014, pro-Russian militants stormed the unit's headquarters for several days, firing from the homes of civilians in the regional centre," the State Border Service added.
They also note that for almost a decade, the Luhansk detachment has been defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine with arms in hand. In particular, in 2018, the border guard detachment was named after the Hero of Ukraine, Col Yevhen Pikus, an officer who died heroically in Luhansk Region in a battle with saboteurs supported by Russian armoured vehicles and aircraft.
According to the report, border guards of the Luhansk detachment have travelled several hundred kilometres to the hottest frontline areas: Bakhmut, Lyman, Rubizhne, Kreminna, Lysychansk, Severodonetsk, Popasna, Siversk, Fedorivka, Svyatohirsk and many others.
Many of the soldiers received high awards.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion alone, five servicemen of the border guard detachment have been awarded the honorary title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star, 4 of them posthumously," the State Border Service said.
The Luhansk Border Guard Detachment has now been reformed into an Assault Guard brigade with the symbolic name Revenge.
"It is worth noting that the combat capabilities of this unit have now been significantly increased, with the appropriate means - armoured vehicles, special vehicles, anti-aircraft, artillery and anti-tank weapons, aerial reconnaissance systems and strike UAVs, electronic warfare and reconnaissance equipment, modern man-portable air defence systems, sniper weapons, etc. At the same time, the Luhansk detachment's military personnel have undergone numerous exercises and coordination both in Ukraine and abroad: Great Britain, Spain, Germany and other countries," the State Border Service said.
According to the commander of the Luhansk border guard detachment, Col Oleksandr Osypets, the slogan of Revenge is "Revived to win".
