President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will join the EU summit on 1 February online, according to Yevropeyska Pravda.
"As for Zelenskyy, yes, he will join," said a senior EU official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The summit will address the issue of long-term support for Ukraine, in particular, the allocation of 50 billion euros. The issue of military assistance to Kyiv will also be discussed.
· Zelenskyy also spoke via video link at a two-day summit of EU leaders last December.
· According to Politico, the leaders of the bloc wanted to invite the Ukrainian president to the summit, but did not do so, fearing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's reaction. Zelenskyy himself also wanted to attend the event in person.
· The other day, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government meeting that all 27 EU member states had agreed to support a four-year, €50 billion programme to support Ukraine.
· Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he was ready to support the EU's financial assistance to Ukraine along with other member states, but on the condition that the decision to allocate funds is made annually, not for four years.
