President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, who until yesterday was the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The decree conferring the highest state award was signed on 8 February, the day Zaluzhnyy was dismissed. The document was published on the President's website.
"For outstanding personal merits in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people, I hereby decree: To award the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star to Zaluzhnyy Valeriy Fedorovych, General," the decree reads.
