On 7 March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the candidacy of Valeriy Zaluzhnyy for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.
The Foreign Ministry has already sent a request for the appointment to London.
Ukraine has not had an ambassador to the UK after Zelenskyy dismissed Vadym Prystayko in July 2023. Before his dismissal, Prystayko criticised the president of Ukraine for his remarks about his gratitude to British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace. The ambassador called Zelenskyy's words that he would call Wallace every morning to thank him for his help "unhealthy sarcasm".
The president dismissed Zaluzhnyy from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in February.
