On 22 March, Russian shelling targeted two parts of the Ukrainian power system, causing it to suffer heavy losses, YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko has told the news telethon.
"They targeted two parts of the power system. The first is the generating part and the second is the distribution part. If we start with the generating capacities, several types of generating capacities were hit. A large number of thermal power plants were hit by missiles and drones... The second part is that the enemy hit a lot of so-called grid nodes of NPC Ukrenergo: transformers and so on," said Kovalenko.
According to him, DTEK Group, for example, has lost 50% of its generating capacity.
The damage is currently being assessed.
"We will find out how much time and money restoration will take,we will find out in a few more days. I can say for sure that this process will take not a day, not a week and not a month," Kovalenko said.
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that on 22 March the Russian army had carried out the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent times.
