Russian missiles, drones and guided bombs strike the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in only 3% of cases, while the remaining 97% hit peaceful cities and critical infrastructure.

Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Serhiy Kyslytsya said this during a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform reports.

"Implementing its strategy of destruction, Russia has fired almost 1,000 missiles, about 2,800 Shahed drones and almost 7,000 guided aerial bombs at Ukrainian cities and villages since the beginning of the year," the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He stressed that the total explosive power of these air strikes on Ukraine exceeds nine kilotons.

"Only 3% of Russian missiles, drones and guided bombs hit military targets, while 97% hit civilian infrastructure," Kyslytsya said.

He emphasised that Russia deliberately targets critical energy facilities, in particular those related to electricity generation.

In March alone, the enemy hit 80% of thermal power plants in Ukraine. Hydroelectric power plants have suffered serious damage. In particular, on 29 March, Russia attacked the Dniester and Kaniv hydroelectric power plants, demonstrating its intention to repeat the disaster it caused last June by blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.

"The common task of the international community, not only Ukraine, should be to ensure that such large-scale environmental disasters never happen again in Europe," Kyslytsya said.

He also noted that Russia had again attacked critical infrastructure, including the Trypillya thermal power plant, which is the main supplier of electricity to Kyiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr Regions. The shelling continued at the time of the UN Security Council meeting.

Kyslytsya also added that in order to increase the scale of civilian casualties, Russia is using the practice of terrorists by repeatedly striking the same places when rescuers are already working there.

In addition, Russia has targeted Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city.

Moreover, the Russian authorities do not hide their true goals - that this will have a "painful, demoralising impact on Ukrainian society".

Terrorists are using this tactic everywhere - from the border areas in the north to the Donbas region to the south of Ukraine. After the destruction of Avdiyivka, Russia is now trying to raze Chasiv Yar. Odesa, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Mykolayiv, Sumy, Khmelnytskyy, Lviv and other Regions are also under constant shelling.
