Zelenskyy appoints Zaluzhnyy ambassador to United Kingdom

In March, the President approved the candidacy of Valeriy Zaluzhnyy for the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyy as Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

"To appoint Valeriy Zaluzhnyy as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland," reads Decree No. 316/2024 of 9 May.

In a previous decree, Zelenskyy had discharged Zaluzhnyi from military service for health reasons with the right to wear military uniforms.

On 7 March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the candidacy of Valeriy Zaluzhnyy for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. 

Ukraine has not had an ambassador to the UK for a long time, after Zelenskyy dismissed Vadym Prystayko in July 2023.
