Today, there is a significant shortage of electricity in the power system throughout the day, Ukrenergo reports.
Since 06:00, consumption has been growing again due to a drop in temperature. The available volumes of imports, emergency assistance and consumption restrictions were not enough to overcome the shortage. Therefore, from 6:40 a.m. to 08:30 a.m., Ukrenergo's Control Centre applied controlled emergency blackouts for industrial and household consumers in all regions of Ukraine, except for Kherson Region. As of 9:30 a.m., emergency blackouts have been cancelled and power supply to consumers has been restored.
With the increase in consumption in the evening hours of maximum consumption from 18:00 to 23:00, Ukrenergo predicts the introduction of emergency power outages for household and industrial consumers.
Also, today, from 00:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to 24:00, power limitation schedules will be in effect for industrial consumers.
Yesterday, on 14 May, to overcome the deficit in the power system, Ukrenergo's Dispatch Centre applied consumption restriction schedules for industry from 16:00. However, due to a significant increase in consumption during the cold snap, controlled emergency outages were applied from 20:55 to 00:00 for household and industrial consumers.
Also yesterday, in order to overcome the deficit in the power system, at the request of Ukrenergo, emergency electricity supply to Ukraine was activated from 00:00 to 07:00 and from 11:00 to 24:00 from the power systems of Romania, Poland, and Slovakia. In addition, from 11:00 to 16:00, at the request of the Polish power system operator, the Ukrainian power system accepted surplus electricity.
Today, emergency assistance from the EU countries was applied from 00:00 to 07:00.
Ukrenergo urges to consume electricity sparingly throughout the day.
Imports from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova totalled 23,692 MWh throughout the day, with a maximum capacity of up to 1,628 MW in some hours. Starting from 1 December, the technical capacity to import electricity from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova is 1,700 MW per hour.
Ukrenergo also reported that 418 settlements were without power in the morning. In particular, there are new power outages in Donetsk, Sumy and Kharkiv Regions due to the hostilities.
