A collaborator who joined the Russian Interior Ministry during the occupation of Kupyansk was sentenced to 12 years in prison. This was reported by the SBU press service.
Thanks to the SBU's evidence base, another collaborator who collaborated with Russia during the occupation of Kupyansk in Kharkiv Region received a real prison term. The offender is a local resident who supported the racists during the seizure of the community and later joined the local ‘department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation’.
There, he was assigned to a ‘patrol’ unit that guarded the buildings in which the Russian invaders were based.
The perpetrator, together with the armed occupiers, also walked around the town looking for members of the resistance movement.
After the liberation of Kupyansk, the collaborator tried to hide from justice by changing his addresses of temporary residence. However, SBU officers tracked him down and detained him in May 2023 as a result of stabilisation measures in the de-occupied area.
Based on the SBU materials, the offender was found guilty under Part 7 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaboration).
Taking into account his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
As a reminder, a missile gunner at the Yavoriv test site was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison. During the court hearing, former KGB officer Kostorny did not admit his guilt.
