Ukraine has received €4.2bn from the European Union under the Ukraine Facility programme, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.

He noted that the government will use these funds for social programmes, humanitarian aid and other important budget programmes. Military expenditures will continue to be financed exclusively from domestic resources.

Since the beginning of the year, the EU has provided Ukraine with over €12 billion in budget support.

"We continue to implement reforms that are essential for our resilience, development and future. Our European partners support these efforts. We expect to receive another tranche of assistance by the end of the year," the Prime Minister said.

  • In total, Ukraine is expected to receive €16 billion under this programme this year. In order to receive the funds, the state is obliged to implement a reform plan drawn up by its European partners.
  • The Ukraine Facility programme envisages the EU allocating €50 billion to Ukraine over four years.
  • In May, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the plan for the Ukraine Facility programme. The plan includes structural reforms, in particular in public administration, energy and agriculture.
