An 18-year-old resident of Dnipro city, who is suspected of the premeditated murder of a public figure, MP of the VII convocation, Iryna Farion, has been detained.
This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
‘Following the principled position of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Lviv Court of Appeal remanded in custody an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro suspected of the premeditated murder of a public figure, MP of the VII convocation, Iryna Farion (Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),’ the prosecutor's office said.
Earlier, the Halytskyy District Court of Lviv extended the measure of restraint in the form of detention without the alternative of bail to the suspect Vyacheslav Zinchenko.
This was the measure of restraint insisted on by prosecutors.
The suspect's defence counsel filed an appeal against the investigating judge's ruling and requested that it be cancelled and a measure of restraint in the form of round-the-clock house arrest be imposed.
However, the court dismissed the lawyer's appeal and upheld the previously imposed measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail.
Before that, the preventive measure was extended and the investigation was extended for six months.
Iryna Farion was murdered on 19 July, and the alleged perpetrator of the assassination attempt was detained in Dnipro a week later.
Vyacheslav Zinchenko denied his guilt. A pre-trial restraint in the form of detention for two months without the right to post bail was imposed on him.
