The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution addressing the human rights violations committed by Russia in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukrinform reports.
The resolution was supported by 81 countries, with 14 voting against and 80 abstaining. The countries opposing the resolution included Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.
The document highlights the ongoing violations by Russian forces, including torture of Ukrainian servicemen in captivity. Danielle Bell, head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, stated that over 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war held in Russia have reported being subjected to torture.
This resolution reaffirms international condemnation of Russia’s actions in the temporarily occupied territories and underscores the urgency of addressing human rights abuses.
