Overnight, the Russian army targeted a ten-storey building in Sumy with a drone. According to the State Emergency Service and the regional military administration, four people were killed. The prosecutor’s office later clarified that the victims were two married couples: a 74-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife, as well as a 65-year-old man and his 64-year-old wife.
Nine others were injured, including an 8-year-old girl. A pre-trial investigation has been launched under part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, addressing war crimes that resulted in civilian deaths.
Five victims, including the child, were hospitalised, with three in serious condition.
The attack destroyed nine apartments and 12 balconies, while the glazing of more than 80 windows and balconies was damaged. More than 20 cars were also affected. Rescuers evacuated 118 people and saved four, including one child.
“Emergency responders quickly set up a mobile resilience unit at the scene. Psychologists and medics from the State Emergency Service are assisting victims, and two canine teams have been deployed. Special high-altitude equipment is in use,” the statement said.
