Over the three years of its full-scale invasion, Russia has carried out more than 30 massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The total losses caused by Russian terror amount to billions of dollars.
This was reported by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko.
"Each massive attack on the energy sector involves one hundred, two hundred, and now three hundred different munitions that simultaneously hit power generation, substations, power lines, and gas infrastructure. In addition, the targeted shelling of the energy sector does not stop every day. Russia commits crimes by attacking facilities critical to the operation of nuclear power plants and creating a threat of a nuclear disaster," Halushchenko said.
The enemy has occupied 18 GW of generation facilities, including hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants and Europe's largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhya NPP.
In addition, hundreds of power engineers have been killed or injured as a result of Russia's actions.
- Today, the European Commission has offered Ukraine a new support package to ensure the security of the energy system and full integration into the European energy market.
- It will facilitate the integration of the electricity market with the EU by spring 2027, together with Moldova, as well as further integration in the EU gas sector. However, Ukraine needs to accelerate the implementation of existing commitments in terms of legislative, regulatory and public service obligation frameworks. This includes establishing a mechanism to support vulnerable households.
- The Commission will facilitate the financing of gas purchases, and this will contribute to the accumulation of significant gas stocks. This will benefit both Ukraine and the region as a whole.
- The package will accelerate investments in renewable energy sources. It will add up to 1.5 GW of generating capacity. This is about a 25% increase in total renewable energy generation capacity in Ukraine
