Estonian intelligence has confirmed the organised withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Kursk Region of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by Deputy Chief of Estonian Intelligence Janek Kesselmann, ERR reports.

According to him, the most active events are currently taking place in the Kursk Region.

‘The intelligence centre can confirm that there is an organised withdrawal of Ukrainian units from the Kursk Region. Currently, publicly available information also indicates that the town of Sudzha is under the control of the Russian Armed Forces,’ Kesselmann said.

At the same time, he clarified that in recent months, the Russian Federation has not increased its military contingent in the Kursk direction. Kesselmann also said that fierce fighting continues in the Kursk area, allowing Ukrainian troops to withdraw.

Meanwhile, a large-scale Russian propaganda campaign is taking place in the information space.

Regarding media speculation about possible US political pressure that allegedly influenced the decision to withdraw from Kursk, Kesselmann said the Estonian Defence Forces have no such information.

‘We are waiting for the official position of Ukraine, but it is certain that the decision was made at the level of the Armed Forces leadership. It probably happened a few days or even weeks ago, and it is now being implemented,’ the deputy chief of Estonian intelligence said.

  • The Kursk direction has been one of the most difficult for many weeks. Recently, the enemy has stepped up efforts to dislodge Ukrainian forces.
  • On 14 March, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces denied information about the enemy encirclement of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk Region. This information is not true and is being spread by the Russians for political purposes and to put pressure on Ukraine and its partners.
