The Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft law on the introduction of special contracts for Ukrainian citizens aged 60 and over. As you know, the current mobilisation age is 25 to 60.

A member of the Defence Committee, Roman Kostenko, said that draft law No. 13229 would give Ukrainians aged 60 and over the right to voluntarily sign contracts for military service. The contracts will be valid for one year.

‘Officers aged 60+ will also need to obtain additional approval from the General Staff of the Armed Forces,’ Kostenko said.

This document is already available on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, but without the text.

In a comment to lb.ua, Kostenko said that such volunteers will have a probationary period of two months. After the end of the one-year contract, it can be extended for a similar period.

‘For one year (contract - Ed.). Two months probationary period. Then it can be extended for another year,’ the MP commented.

  • Special contracts are also provided for citizens under the age of 25. Ukrainians aged 18 to 24 can sign contracts and receive additional benefits: free higher education, the possibility of travelling abroad after service, and additional financial remuneration.
