On 26 September, the Lviv Culture Hub will host an evening event organised by the German-Ukrainian Society under the slogan ‘For our and your freedom’. The event is organised jointly by the Deutsch-Ukrainische Gesellschaft, INDEX: Institute for Documentation and Interaction, and the Lviv Culture Hub.
The German-Ukrainian Society was founded in 2024 on the initiative of German civil society. Its co-founders are historian Franziska Davies and researcher at the Institute for European Politics in Berlin Lyudmyla Melnyk. The organisation supports Ukrainian voices in Germany, promotes knowledge about the Ukrainian language, culture and history, and systematically supports Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

‘Today, Ukraine is fighting not only for its freedom, but also for us — for a free and peaceful Europe. We are convinced that German-Ukrainian friendship is an important axis for such a Europe,’ emphasised Franziska Davies.
The evening's programme includes a discussion with essayist and translator Yuriy Prokhasko, philosopher Vakhtang Kebuladze, and historian Franziska Davies. The conversation will be moderated by journalist and researcher Olesya Yaremchuk. The event will have a symbolic language format: the German side will speak Ukrainian, and the Ukrainian side will speak German. Simultaneous translation will also be provided.
