Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko will take part in a public discussion in Amsterdam on the role of literature in making sense of history and the current war. The Embassy of Ukraine in the Netherlands announced this on its Facebook page.
The event will take place at the De Balie cultural centre, where the author, together with Dutch writer Lisa Weeda, will discuss how literature helps to bring to light experiences that lie outside official historical narratives.
The discussion will focus on the interconnection between private life and political processes, the impact of unresolved historical events on identity, and the renewed resonance of these themes following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Particular attention will be paid to writing in wartime and the role of culture in countering the erasure of memory.
The event will take place on Sunday, 3 May, at 15:00.
