As part of the Lviv Media Forum 2026, a panel discussion entitled Culture as a Target and Tool of Genocide: How Media Can Catch the Moment will take place, focusing on the understanding of attacks on culture as a component of genocidal processes. The event is scheduled for 15 May. The Raphael Lemkin Society announced this on its Facebook page.
The panel will bring together experts in the fields of cultural heritage, international law and accountability mechanisms. Participants will discuss how the destruction of culture is used as a tool of genocide, as well as the role of journalists and the media in recording, documenting and reporting on these processes.
Speakers include Fiona Greenland, Director of the Cultural Resilience Informatics and Analysis Lab and Associate Professor at the University of Virginia; Alex Presanti, Legal Advisor on Investigations and Case Building; and Daryna Pidhorna, a lawyer and analyst specialising in international humanitarian and criminal law.
The discussion will be moderated by Tetyana Pushnova — a journalist, editor and producer of cultural projects. The working language of the meeting will be English.
