Ukrainian director and Sundance Film Festival award winner Maryna Er Gorbach has been featured in a joint charity initiative by Uniqlo and the Cate Blanchett Foundation, according to the Ukrainian Film Academy.
The Japanese brand and The Displacement Film Fund (DFF) have released a T-shirt featuring the names of five film directors as part of Uniqlo’s PEACE FOR ALL charity collection.
In addition to the names, the T-shirt also features five film cameras accompanied by the words ‘Freedom’, ‘Trust’, ‘Humanity’, ‘Respect’ and ‘Dignity’. The design was created by the Dutch agency 75B.
Alongside Maryna Er Gorbach, the T-shirt features other refugee filmmakers supported by the foundation:
- Mo Harawe, a Somali filmmaker and winner at the Locarno Film Festival;
- Mohammad Rasoulof, the Iranian recipient of the Golden Bear and the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival;
- Syrian director Hasan Kattan;
- Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat;
On the brand’s website, the T-shirts are priced at $29.90. Proceeds from sales will go to the DFF to support future projects. According to the organisers, more than 10 million T-shirts from the series have been sold worldwide to date.
