Officers of the State Bureau of Investigation detained the head of the Main Directorate of the StateGeoCadastre in Lviv Region, who attempted to bribe an employee of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention.

This was reported by the SBI press service SBI.

The official offered $30,000 for favorable results from monitoring of his lifestyle and that of people connected to him. In this way, he sought to avoid the detection of possible violations and liability.

The NACP began the monitoring in late 2025 at the SBI’s initiative as part of a separate criminal proceeding being investigated by the Bureau.

In June 2026, the head of the regional StateGeoCadastre began seeking a personal meeting with the head of one of the NACP’s units. During a meeting in Lviv, he offered the official $30,000 for the desired outcome of the monitoring. Trying to conceal the content of the conversation, the man wrote the bribe amount with a pen on a napkin.

The NACP employee immediately reported the illegal offer to management. This enabled law enforcement to document the official’s unlawful actions.

Later, he scheduled a new meeting and arrived in Kyiv. SBI officers detained the official while he was handing over the illicit benefit. He has been served with a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code—offering, promising, or providing an unlawful benefit to an official holding a responsible position.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of pre-trial detention is currently being decided. The article’s sanction provides for up to eight years’ imprisonment, with or without confiscation of property.
