The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has published on the “War&Sanctions” portal data on 35 companies involved in the production of Iskander-M ballistic missiles.
This was reported by the press service of DIU.
“On the ‘War&Sanctions’ portal, the DIU of the Ministry of Defence is publishing 140 Russian and foreign components identified in the 9M723 Iskander-M ballistic missile, data on 35 companies involved in the production co-operation for such missiles, as well as more than 100 of their officials and employees,” the statement said.
It is noted that in recent months Russia has been using ballistic weapons as the main means of its air attacks.
“The fact that such strikes take place mainly at night, and that the flight time of ballistic missiles to the Ukrainian capital is only a few minutes, indicates their purely terrorist nature. This tactic is aimed at intimidating Ukrainians and forcing peace at any cost, rather than on terms that are fair for Ukraine and the civilised world,” the DIU stressed.
In one of the combined missile strikes on Kyiv this summer, the enemy used the upgraded 9M723-2 ballistic missiles for the first time, also known under the provisional name “Iskander-1000”. The missile is part of a system called “Bora-M”. Thanks to a larger engine and, accordingly, a larger launcher, the upgraded missile is capable of striking targets at a range of up to 550 km (390 km for the 9M723-1). The rest of the missile’s parts remained identical to the 9M723-1.
Launching a series of publications on Russian ballistic weapons, the DIU is releasing additional details on the production of 9M723 ballistic missiles for the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system. A new page on the portal brings together several datasets:
- an interactive 3D model of the missile, its main components, and more than 170 Russian- and foreign-made components identified in the samples used;
- 82 Russian and two Belarusian companies involved in the production co-operation for these missiles;
- 108 key officials and employees of the main companies in the co-operation;
- 121 items of foreign technological equipment used by these companies.
A significant portion of this data is being published for the first time today — 140 components, 35 companies and 108 individuals.
The DIU noted that despite ongoing attempts at localisation, the 9M723 missile still contains a significant share of foreign components. Only a quarter of the 140 components published today are made by Russian companies; almost half — 63 — are produced by manufacturers in the United States; 8 each come from Switzerland and Belarus; 4 each from Germany and Taiwan; and 3 from China.
In one of the most important parts of the missile’s guidance system — the flight information processing unit that receives data from the laser gyroscope — only 5 of 43 components are made in Russia.
The most critical components — the microprocessor, FPGA, memory, digital-to-analogue and analogue-to-digital converters — are made by US and Taiwanese manufacturers: DM&P Electronics, Xilinx (part of AMD), Atmel (part of Microchip Technology), Winbond Electronics, Micron Technology, Analog Devices.
“All the companies, entities and facilities disclosed must become the number one priority in the sanctions policy of the civilised world, because the experience of recent months has shown that no country is capable of providing a sufficient number of means to shoot down dozens of ballistic missiles every night,” the DIU stressed.
