Ukraine’s Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi addressed the Verkhovna Rada today, 1 September. He said Ukraine could fail to receive part of the money from international partners unless 44 government decisions, 26 laws already submitted to parliament and 17 draft laws are adopted.
“I spoke in the Verkhovna Rada. I reported that, following an express audit, including of the financial block, the new Government has faced extremely difficult challenges. We now have an understanding of the current problems and future risks — and an action plan for how to resolve them,” the head of government wrote.
He said Ukraine could miss out on a significant share of the $29.5bn from international partners if parliament and the government do not work together.
For the budget to receive these funds, 44 government decisions and 26 laws that have already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada must be adopted, as well as 17 draft laws that need to be submitted as soon as possible.
Koretskyi assured that the government will ensure all 44 decisions are implemented by 1 November.
“I ask MPs, regardless of political preferences, to also pass all the necessary draft laws,” he noted.
The budget deficit for the Defence Forces stands at $27bn. It arose due to the objective increase in the cost of the war, technological solutions, the need for additional funding for air defence and the financial support of our service personnel.
Negotiations are under way at all levels with international partners to secure emergency funding for these needs.
