President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded to statements by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko about signing a notice of suspicion for the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and to his accusations that NABU and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) allegedly stole investigative materials about their colleagues from the Prosecutor General’s Office. The head of state believes that “this Prosecutor General has only one path: dismissal from office”.
Zelenskyy noted that he had already told him this. He also asked MPs to support the dismissal without delay.
“If he considers this political pressure, let him call it that. I ask parliamentarians to support this dismissal without delay,” he said.
This morning, Kravchenko published a seven-minute video address in which he accused NABU and SAPO of gaining access to materials relating to employees of these bodies. According to him, they allegedly obtained these materials during searches at the Prosecutor General’s Office premises in the “Carthage” case, which concerns the exposure in the Prosecutor General’s Office of a criminal organisation that covered up illegal call centres and laundered the money obtained from them.
The main suspect in the case is the head of one of the departments, Serhiy Kropyva. Kravchenko spoke with him on several occasions, according to the investigation materials.
After NABU published information about the exposure, Kravchenko told journalists that he did not plan to resign. However, that same evening he met with the President, after which he submitted his resignation letter. The Verkhovna Rada must vote on it.
