This morning, 25 September, Romania scrambled two fighter jets after a drone was detected near the border.
According to the country’s Ministry of Defence, the radar surveillance system detected an airborne target 20 kilometres east of the city of Galați.
Two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets, on combat air policing duty at the 86th Borcea Air Base, took off to monitor the situation.
The National Military Command Centre informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the need to alert residents in the eastern part of Galați County and the northern part of Tulcea County. At 03:27, residents received an air raid alert message.
The warning for the eastern part of Galați County and the northern part of Tulcea County was lifted at 04:14. No breach of Romania’s airspace was reported.
