On the night of 26 September, Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. A fire was recorded on the site.
The strike on the refinery was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The operation involved operators from the 1st Separate Centre of Unmanned Systems Forces and the 414th Separate Brigade “Madyar’s Birds”, together with other components of the Defence Forces.
“This is not the first time the facility has been hit as part of systematic work targeting Russian oil refining. The distance to the target is about 400 km,” the Unmanned Systems Forces said.
Ilsky Refinery is one of the major oil-processing facilities in southern Russia. Its capacity is about 6.6 million tonnes of oil per year. The plant receives, stores and processes hydrocarbon feedstock, producing petrol, diesel fuel and other petroleum products.
The facility’s products are used, among other things, to meet the needs of the Russian armed forces.
“Strikes on such facilities are Ukraine’s exercise of its inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter and are aimed at reducing the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation,” the General Staff added.
