On the night of 27 September, an unidentified aerial object violated Romania’s airspace near the border with Ukraine. An air raid alert was issued in the border county of Tulcea, and fighter jets were scrambled.
This was reported by Romania’s Ministry of Defence.
Romania’s radar surveillance system detected an aerial object moving near the settlement of Chilia Veche, close to the river border with Ukraine.
At 23:32, residents in the northern part of Tulcea County received a message via the RO-Alert system.
To monitor the air situation, two Spanish Air and Space Force F-18 fighter jets, carrying out an enhanced Air Policing mission, were scrambled, along with a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter.
According to radar data, the object entered Romania’s airspace near Chilia Veche and for several minutes moved almost parallel to the Chilia branch of the Danube.
Radar contact with the object was lost in the area of Pardina. The air raid alert was lifted at 00:48.
