On 19 September, l’Hybride in Lille presented “Daughter” (Dotsia), a video-mapping work created by Svitlana Reinish inspired by Tamara Duda’s (Tamara Horiha Zernia) novel of the same name, as part of the immersive project Au-delà des lignes – Romancières en lumière (Beyond the Lines – Women Novelists in the Spotlight). This is reported on l’Hybride’s website.
According to the description, Reinish’s eight-minute “Daughter” combines a poetic visual language with excerpts from the novel and aims to pay tribute to the resilience of ordinary people, the quiet strength of women and an unbreakable will to live. It follows a journey during the Russian occupation of Donetsk in 2014, when its residents are transformed and fear gives way to determination.
The work was created during a creative residency organised by Rencontres Audiovisuelles as part of the Video Mapping European Center, with support from the Ukrainian Institute in France and L’Europe s’engage en Hauts-de-France, with the participation of the European Regional Development Fund.
“Women Novelists in the Spotlight” is a 40-minute immersive video-mapping programme which, in addition to Reinish, features four other artists with works inspired by writings by George Sand, Virginia Woolf, Marguerite Duras and Colette.
The exhibition will run until 1 February 2027.
About Tamara Horiha Zernia’s novel “Dotsia”:
- the debut novel by Ukrainian writer and translator Tamara Horiha Zernia, published in 2019 by Bilka Publishing House;
- tells the story of a young woman who moved from Volyn to Donetsk and gradually adapts to life there. However, in spring 2014, her plans are interrupted by war;
- was named BBC Book of the Year 2019.
About Svitlana Reinish:
- a Ukrainian media artist, director and VJ known as VJ Reinish;
- works on installations, video poetry and theatre productions, and also practises video art, painting, graffiti and land art;
- winner of the international video poetry competition “CYCLOP” and a finalist in the international competition “1minute Projection Mapping in Huis Ten Bosch” in Japan.
About l’Hybride:
- a cultural venue specialising in short films and digital art;
- founded in 2007 by the Rencontres Audiovisuelles association, it was dedicated to audiovisual media;
- in 2026 it won the “Culture immersive et métavers” (Immersive Culture and the Metaverse) grant and added video mapping to its programme.
