Russians struck the civilian infrastructure of the city of Sumy with four guided aerial bombs. As a result of the strike, two people who were in their homes in the private residential sector were killed. The dead are a 70-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man.
This was reported by the head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov.
The enemy also struck a school. At the time of the attack, the children were in a shelter.
According to the State Emergency Service, nine people were injured, including three children.
"Four guided aerial bombs hit the central part of the city. The enemy shelled the school building and a residential area. At three locations simultaneously, rescuers put out fires and inspected the attack sites. All fires were extinguished," the statement said.
Update. Later, Hryhorov said that about 70 children and staff were in the school shelter. The school building was significantly damaged.
One of the guided aerial bombs hit the grounds of the Central City Cemetery. Graves and monuments were damaged, and windows in the church were blown out.
Since the start of the year, Russia has carried out more than 150 strikes on the city of Sumy alone.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the latest Russian crime. He thanked the teachers and the school leadership for ensuring that children and staff were in the shelter. The President also expressed condolences to the families of those killed.
"Russian terrorists are simply depraved degenerates. To strike like this at children, at schools, at ordinary homes. America, Europe, all our partners must not forget that Russia will not stop this madness without real pressure. We expect that the response to these strikes will come and will not be limited to words alone," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
