Ukrainian Armour has integrated a remotely operated, Ukrainian-made armoured module onto the Novator 2 armoured vehicle. The company reported this.
According to Ukrainian Armour, the module is fitted with a 12.7 mm Browning machine gun with an ammunition load of 300 rounds, provides 360° traverse and vertical guidance from −3.5° to +61.9°. The armoured housing has Class 4 protection and can withstand hits from 5.45×39 mm and 7.62×54 mm rounds. “Today we demonstrated the capabilities of our module to representatives of the Defence Forces at a firing range. Based on the results, we achieved 90% hits on targets at distances of 100, 350, 600 and 1,000 metres, and also demonstrated firing on the move and at drones. Servicemen rated the module’s performance and its combat capabilities highly,” a representative of the partner company said.
Ukrainian Armour noted that the module has already fully completed research trials in accordance with the programmes and methodologies and is at the final stage of codification.
According to Serhii Ruzhynskyi, a representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Central Directorate for Innovation Activity, in addition to the Novator the module has also been adapted for the M113 armoured personnel carrier and the BRDM-2 armoured reconnaissance and patrol vehicle.
The Novator is a Ukrainian armoured vehicle produced by Ukrainian Armour, built on a reinforced Ford F-550 chassis. The first prototype was presented in December 2017, and from 2019 the vehicles began entering service with the Defence Forces. The basic version is designed for a crew of two and three dismounts, has a 4×4 wheel arrangement, a combat weight of about 8.8 tonnes, a 300 hp engine, a top speed of up to 120 km/h and a range of about 700 km.
After the start of the full-scale war, the platform was developed into a family of vehicles. In 2023, the Novator-2 was presented — a ten-seat version with reinforced suspension, improved handling and mine protection. In March 2024, a 10-seat Novator with the Tavriia-14.5 combat module was presented. A medical evacuation version, the Novator 2S, as well as command-and-staff and explosive ordnance disposal modifications, were created on the platform.
