The Ministry of Defence has codified and approved for supply to the Defence Forces of Ukraine an armoured pickup based on the GYURZA-01. The agency’s press service reported this.
The new armoured vehicle was built on the basis of the multifunctional civilian Dodge RAM 5500 pickup. The vehicle’s developer, UkrArmoTech, said its main task is the safe transport of unmanned systems, ammunition and other cargo, as well as the movement of personnel.
“The GYURZA-01, on which the new pickup has been built and codified, is one of our universal platforms. It can be used not only to transport personnel, ammunition and equipment, but also for evacuation and logistics tasks, and as a base for installing various equipment,” the company said.
According to the company, the vehicle is equipped with a ZF gearbox and a 6.7-litre Cummins engine. With dimensions of 6.42 x 2.66 x 2.54 metres, the vehicle’s gross weight does not exceed 10,700 ± 200 kg.
The Ministry of Defence notes that the armoured pickup can carry five soldiers in full kit and almost two tonnes of cargo. The agency says the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 110 km/h. Its fuel range is sufficient for 800 km on dirt roads and up to 1,000 km on paved roads. Thanks to its design features, the pickup can tackle difficult off-road terrain, dense undergrowth, marshland and boggy ground.
UAT.GYURZA-01 has the following features:
- Level 2 ballistic and fragmentation protection of the hull in accordance with STANAG 4569: in particular, the vehicle can withstand hits from 7.62×39 mm rounds;
- Level 3a and 3b mine protection in accordance with STANAG 4569: the vehicle can withstand the detonation of an anti-tank mine with an explosive mass equivalent to 8 kg of TNT;
- a high body strength threshold;
- reliable, hard-wearing components;
- a straightforward (civilian-style) control layout;
- availability of spare parts and consumables;
- strong tactical and technical performance;
- wide logistics capabilities.
The GYURZA-01 pickup is equipped with innovative protection and surveillance systems required for military missions, including an external surveillance system; a television viewing system; an electronic warfare system; a fire-suppression system for the cab and engine compartment; a ventilation and air-conditioning system; and a winch.
If required, the vehicle can be additionally fitted with a semi-automatic tyre inflation system, a fragmentation deflector, a filter-ventilation unit, and more.
By way of reminder, in July 2025 the Ministry of Defence codified and approved for use in the Defence Forces the special armoured vehicle UAT.GYURZA-02 — a modernised version of the GYURZA-01 that is already in service with our troops. The new model features improved armour protection, as well as better dynamic and off-road performance. The vehicle is equipped with a 6.7-litre turbodiesel, an automatic transmission, a dual-circuit braking system, and more.
The vehicle’s troop compartment has a high level of protection against armour-piercing incendiary rounds of 7.62x39 or 7.62x54 mm. The V-shaped hull provides resistance to mine blasts equivalent to up to 8 kg of TNT. It is possible to mount any machine gun of up to 14.5 mm calibre on the vehicle.
