A statue of US President Donald Trump has been put on display inside the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France.
DW reports.
The 2.5-metre-tall satirical sculpture, created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, is titled Orange Plague. It depicts the American leader naked: he is sitting on the shoulders of a shorter man and holding a long golden mace.
The statue stands at the intersection linking the parliament’s two buildings and is due to remain there until Thursday.
According to the artist, the statue is coated in 23-carat gold. Next to it are placards explaining that the ‘King of Injustice’ is sitting on the back of a man who is bending under the weight.
“I would do anything to help him. Except get off his back,” the text says, as the artist accuses Trump of obstructing efforts to tackle climate change.
Per Clausen, a left-wing Danish Member of the European Parliament who invited the artist, said he is not concerned about a possible reaction from Trump.
“If someone reacts so painfully to criticism that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then that person has no place on the world stage,” Clausen said.
The statue has previously been shown in other European cities and at the UN climate conference COP30 in the city of Belém (Brazil).
The US President has not yet commented on the incident.
