In Kyiv, the situation with electricity and water supply is tense due to Russian attacks. On the left bank, hourly outages are in place, while on the right bank there are emergency shutdowns, and as a result water is being supplied at reduced pressure in the Solomyanskyy, Svyatoshynskyy, Holosiyivskyy and Shevchenkivskyy districts.

This was reported at a briefing by the acting first deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Petro Panteleyev.

“Energy workers are working to stabilise the situation. The situation changes several times a day, but nevertheless all services are working 24/7 and are doing everything to ensure that the electricity supply in the capital is stable. This situation, accordingly, also affects the water supply. At present, the right bank—namely the Solomyanskyy, Svyatoshynskyy, Holosiyivskyy and Shevchenkivskyy districts—is operating with reduced water pressure. Utility specialists, together with energy workers, are also working to restore the capital’s power supply,” the official said.

For water and heat supply systems, 700 generators have already been installed; of these, the water supply has 27 MW of backup power. A further roughly 40 MW will be provided by special power stations.

“We are now talking about building special, high-capacity power stations specifically for the water supply system. We planned these measures, we understood the risks, and accordingly funds were allocated and projects were developed, which are now being implemented. A third of the work has already been completed; a further roughly 40 MW of capacity—specifically the power stations that will provide this capacity—is at the implementation stage. The relevant equipment has been ordered; it is being manufactured, including abroad, because the equipment is quite technologically complex,” Panteleyev said.

The project is planned to be completed by the end of the year.

  • Earlier, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that Kyiv’s central heating system is ready to be launched. By the end of December, the city is to complete construction of a backup heating system providing 1,600 megawatts of heat, which will operate in the event the central heating system is destroyed.
