More than 4,300 people have evacuated from border communities in the Sumy region since the start of 2026, including 161 children.

This is reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

"To support everyone forced to leave their home, the region has created conditions for both temporary and longer-term accommodation. Transit centres are operating in Sumy, Romny, Shostka and Shostka district. Twenty-eight temporary accommodation facilities for internally displaced people have been set up — at present, 740 places are available there", the statement says.

For longer-term stays, communities are offering 33 houses, two flats and 20 places in dormitories.

In addition, financial support has been предусмотрено for internally displaced people.

The Regional Military Administration urges residents of settlements under constant shelling to look after their own safety and that of their loved ones, and not to delay the decision to evacuate.
