The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the National Police, has solved the case of the contract killing of an instructor at one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ training centres, which took place in January this year in Rivne Region. The pre-trial investigation has been completed and the case materials have been sent to court.

The SBU reported this.

According to investigators, the perpetrator was a 14-year-old local schoolgirl recruited by Russia’s FSB. She first slipped the serviceman a lethal dose of methadone and, when he lost consciousness, strangled him.

Law enforcement officers established that the FSB recruited the girl via Telegram chats. A handler in Russia then provided her with instructions on how to lure the serviceman to a meeting and kill him.

The schoolgirl began communicating with the man online and later invited him to her flat. During the meeting, she put a narcotic substance into his drink. When the serviceman passed out, the girl suffocated him with a plastic bag and a charging cable.

Law enforcement officers detained the minor the day after the killing. During a search, they seized a smartphone containing evidence of cooperation with the Russian special service.

The case materials have now been sent to court with a request to apply compulsory educational measures to the girl.

Her actions were classified under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason under martial law — as well as Part 1 of Article 114-1 — obstructing the lawful activities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other military formations during a special period.

By court decision, the minor may be sent to a special educational and rehabilitation institution for children and adolescents. At the same time, the intentional killing is being investigated in separate criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation was carried out jointly with the SBU Directorate in Rivne Region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
