Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Estonia’s Defence Minister, Martin Herem. The sides discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, arms exports and preparations for the winter period.
This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy thanked Estonia for its defence packages and support for the PURL programme, which enables Ukraine to receive ballistic missile interceptors. The sides also discussed the possibility of new contributions to the programme and finding additional funding to purchase air defence systems.
They also separately discussed the implementation of the Drone Deal, which opens up opportunities for exporting Ukrainian weaponry to Estonia.
"The Drone Deal has opened up opportunities for exports from our country to your country. We are ready to talk about drones, electronic warfare systems and other things we have," Zelenskyy noted.
According to the President, Estonia will be able to receive weapons tested in combat conditions, while Ukraine will receive additional funds for its own defence. The teams of the two countries are to promptly work through the contents of the export package.
Martin Herem assured that Estonia will continue its military support for Ukraine. He also said that this year he visited many places in Ukraine and saw with his own eyes the courage of Ukrainians and their struggle for their values.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy and Herem discussed Ukraine’s European integration, the security situation in the region, Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure, preparations for winter and cooperation between the two countries’ militaries.
The President thanked Estonia for supporting Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
- On 5 October, Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to allocate nearly €230,000 for humanitarian aid, of which €100,000 will be directed to Ukraine to prepare for winter.
