Lithuania’s Ministry of Communications and Transport is proposing to add a number of strategic facilities to the list of sites deemed vital to national security.
The government has already approved the relevant draft, which is intended to ensure the reliable operation of state information resources, the public warning system, the defence industry, as well as postal and logistics services, Delfi reports.
The list is set to include the Vilnius TV Tower and the Kaunas radio relay station, which broadcast radio and television signals and official information to the public. In addition, it will be expanded to cover an external gunpowder storage facility and a production building at the Giraitė arms factory, the Lithuanian Post logistics centre in Vilnius, and state data centres.
Adding these sites will create a legal basis for applying additional physical, technical and cyber-protection measures. The draft law must be approved by Lithuania’s Seimas.
