Activity by Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups on Ukraine’s northern border has fallen sharply in recent times. At the same time, attempts to infiltrate Ukrainian territory are continuing.
State Border Guard Service of Ukraine spokesperson Andrii Demchenko said this on television, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups are trying to enter Ukraine to study the defensive layout, attack Ukrainian military positions and lay mines.
“Over the past period, the overall activity of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups has decreased significantly, but recently, within Chernihiv and Sumy regions, they did have such activity during a certain period,” Demchenko said.
The Border Guard Service spokesperson also noted that Russia had previously used the infiltration of sabotage groups to conduct information operations. In particular, Russians circulated claims about allegedly seizing Ukrainian territory or establishing control over it.
As an example, Demchenko cited incidents in Chernihiv region where Russian saboteurs entered Ukrainian territory and planted flags there, trying to pass it off as a military victory.
