Polish defence companies PK MIL and SZCZĘŚNIAK Pojazdy Specjalne have agreed to cooperate in preparations for the production of Ukraine’s 155 mm wheeled self-propelled howitzers, the Bohdana. This was reported by Militarnyi, citing company representatives.
The parties signed a memorandum of understanding on 11 September 2026 at the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO, held in the Polish city of Kielce.
Under the agreement, PK MIL will focus on the artillery component of the project. SZCZĘŚNIAK Pojazdy Specjalne, for its part, will provide expertise in developing special-purpose vehicles, integrating automotive chassis and adapting them to military requirements. The cooperation will also include developing servicing and operational support for the howitzers.
“From the very beginning, we have assumed that in the future the cooperation between the two companies will also involve implementing solutions that will make it possible to carry out servicing, repairs and operational support for the machines in question directly at end users,” said PK MIL Management Board Chairman Marek Ważecha.
Plans to launch production of Ukrainian self-propelled artillery systems in Poland became known in March 2026. To implement the project, the Polish company PONAR Wadowice and the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant established a joint venture, PK MIL S.A. The Polish side holds 51% of its shares, and the Ukrainian side 49%.
The company plans to produce 155 mm Bohdana self-propelled howitzers, as well as Bohdana-BG towed artillery systems. To increase production volumes, Ukrainian enterprises have already developed several variants of the artillery system on different wheeled chassis. As of January 2026, the Bohdana was being manufactured on four types of vehicle platforms. This approach makes it possible to diversify chassis supplies and maintain the pace of artillery system output.
Ukrainian 155 mm Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems are being actively used by the Defence Forces at the front. According to data released in March 2026, more than 600 such artillery systems had been produced by that time. In October 2025, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine produces 40 Bohdana self-propelled artillery systems per month.
