Ukrenergo and Slovakia’s transmission system operator SEPS are working to restore an emergency mutual assistance agreement.

The issue was among the key topics in the energy sector during intergovernmental consultations between Ukraine and Slovakia, Ukrenergo reported.

Restoring the agreement will enable the two countries’ operators to support each other promptly in the event of emergencies in their power systems. For Ukraine, this mechanism is of particular importance due to ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Ukrenergo stressed.

  • This March, SEPS unilaterally terminated the agreement on providing emergency assistance. The Slovak side offered no explanation.
  • Earlier, in February, Fico said his country had halted electricity supplies to Ukraine because the Ukrainian authorities had stopped oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline, which was damaged by the Russians.
