Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal said he intends to push for the restoration of military aid to Ukraine and tougher sanctions against Russia following the Democrats’ victory in the US elections.

He wrote about it on the social network X.

Blumenthal called for the reinstatement of sanctions that the administration of US President Donald Trump had abandoned, and also for the termination of the diesel deal he concluded. The senator described it as shameful.

Separately, he stressed the need to restore military support for Ukraine, above all the supply of air defence systems.

According to Blumenthal, these steps should demonstrate US support for Ukraine and encourage Russian President Vladimir Putin to engage in serious peace talks.

“I will introduce legislation to seize this moment – a critically important turning point, when decisive election victories should convince Putin that America stands with Ukraine,” the senator said.

  • Democrats also plan to review sanctions legislation known as the Graham bill. It предусматриває financial restrictions against Russia’s defence and energy sectors.
  • In addition, they also intend to tighten oversight of the Trump administration’s foreign policy and investigate the business interests of members of his family and representatives involved in talks on Ukraine and Iran.
