As of 18 January 2016, Donetsk and Rivne regions have crossed the epidemic threshold of flu and acute respiratory disease, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine has said.
Close to clearing the threshold are Vinnytsya, Volyn, Kirovohrad, Kiev, Poltava, Sumy, Ternopil, Kherson, Khmelnytskyy and Chernivtsi regions.
The epidemiological threshold is 58 per 10,000 people.
Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Roman Vasylyshyn said on 18 January that the epidemic threshold across the country can be crossed by the end of the week. Since the beginning of the autumn, Ukraine has registered 46 deaths of flu. The Health Ministry later said that Vasylyshyn's data had not been corroborated by the central reference lab of the ministry.
