President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree entitled "On centennial celebrations of the 1917-1921 Ukrainian revolution".
He announced this in his address on occasion of Ukraine's Unity Day celebrated on 22 January.
"I have signed the decree 'On centennial celebrations of the 1917-1921 Ukrainian revolution'. This is about the times when the Ukrainian people put their right to independent life on the agenda. When they defined their place on the political map of Europe. When the Central Rada, the Hetmanate and the Directory emerged and the Act of Reunification was signed, whose anniversary we are marking today. In the end, the atamanry took over and we lost the state," he said.
The president said the lack of internal unity back then was a harsh lesson for Ukrainians.
"I demand that the coalition, the opposition and non-parliamentary forces learn the lesson. As the president, I will not allow the mistakes of the past to be repeated," he added.
