It is about the internal situation in the EU, rather than Ukraine, says Foreign Ministry.

The European Union intends to develop a mechanism for the suspension of visa-free travel by the end of June 2016, deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal said at a meeting of the inter-parliamentary council of the NATO-Ukraine on 14 June.

"The main thing for the European Union now is the introduction of a temporary suspension mechanism for visa-free regime, and there is a consensus within the EU that by the end of June they should decide on that issue. That is why we, along with Georgia, have become hostages of this matter," she said as quoted by Interfax-Ukraine.

The reason for the development of such a mechanism by the European side, Zerkal said, is the situation in the EU, not Ukraine, because Ukraine has fulfilled all the requirements necessary for the granting of visa-free regime.

Earlier, President Petro Poroshenko ruled out the possibility of failure of a visa-free regime with the EU.

On 10 June, the EU Council at its meeting failed to issue a decision on a visa-free regime for Georgia, Ukraine, Kosovo and Turkey.
