EU diplomacy chief hails Privatbank's nationalization
The Cabinet's decision seen as to step toward stability of the banking sector.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini supports Ukrainian government decision to nationalize Privatbank.
Speaking at a joint with the first Vice-Premier of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv press conference in Brussels on Monday, 19 December, the head of European diplomacy described the decision to nationalize Privatbank as "brave".
"This step should help ensuring that all banks in Ukraine meet the same regulatory standards, and will make the banking sector more stable," Mogherini said as quoted by Interfax-Ukraine.
The policy of Ukrainian government was an important element of a comprehensive program of reforms, endorsed by the EU, she said
On December 18, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision to transfer 100% of the shares in Privatbank into the state ownership.
Earlier, the IMF insisted on the nationalization of Privatbank.
