The militants of the terrorist organizations "DPR" and "LPR" increasingly often use heavy artillery, including in the areas of Troyitske in the Donetsk sector, and near Krymske, Popasna and Novooleksandrivka in the Luhansk sector, the 8 May morning report of the ATO headquarters says.
The spokesman of the ATO HQ press center, Yaroslav Chepurnyy said on the TV channels Ukraine-112 that Russia-backed militants at around midnight on 8 May started shelling Ukrainian positions in the area of Novozvanivka from 122-mm artillery systems. There have been 12 shelling attacks since the beginning of the day, including two with the use of 122-mm artillery, and three attacks with the use of 120-mm mortars.
65 shelling attacks were reported on 7 May.
In the Donetsk sector, militants pounded Ukrainian positions near Troyitske from 122-mm artillery, IFV weapons, 120- and 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers and machine guns of large caliber, 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. Ukrainian positions in the area of Verkhnyotoretske were under the fire of heavy machine guns and IFV weapons, mortars of 120- and 82-mm caliber, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, as were the ATO positions near the village of Luhanske. 82-mm mortars were used near Opytne, and the ATO positions near Avdiyivka – were fired 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns. The defenders of the settlements Kamyanka, Pisky and Zaitseve were pounded with grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. Near Nevelske, militants employed Zu-23-2 anti-aircraft gun and automatic grenade launchers. The ATO positions near Mayorske were fired from grenade launchers and small arms.
In the coastal area, from militants shelled the ATO positions near Vodyane mortars of the 82-mm caliber, anti-tank missile systems, armored vehicles, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, while 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns were used against the defenders of Krasnohorivka. The positions of Ukrainian marines stationed in the area of Shyrokyne were under the fire of armored vehicles' weaponry, and of the armament of armored personnel carriers and grenade launchers - near Pavlopil. Militants pounded Ukrainian positions near Lebedynske and Maryinka with grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. The defenders Novoselivka Druha were fired at from heavy machine guns, and the defenders of Hnutove – from IFV, heavy machine guns and small arms.
In the Luhansk sector, the enemy's illegal armed formations pounded the ATO positions near the Krymske from with 152-mm and 122-mm artillery systems, grenade launchers, 120- and 82-mm mortars, heavy machine guns. From 122-, 120- and 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers the enemy fired at the ATO positions near Troyitske. They used 152-mm and 122-mm artillery, 120-mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns near Novozvanivka. The defenders of Popasna were fired at from 120-mm artillery systems, 120- and 82-mm mortars, and 82-mm mortars – in the vicinity of Katerynivka. The positions of ATO forces in the area of Novooleksandrivka were shelled with 122-mm artillery, 120-mm mortars, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns.
